West Chester's Bilyeu, UMBC's Urps, Muradov win Ursinus tournament
NCWA teams took home three individual titles Saturday at the Ursinus College tournament in Collegeville, Pa., against an NCAA DIII field.
UMBC 174-pounder Chris Urps (a two-time state finalist for Chesapeake-AA High School) captured his title with three pins and a decision. His teammate, 184-pounder Eldar Muradov (from Russia) used a technical fall, major decision and pin to earn his championship.
West Chester's Luke Bilyeu won the 141-pound title in dominant fashion, his second NCAA DIII tournament won this season.
Two other UMBC wrestlers placed at the event: Mike Munno (a state finalist for DeMatha Catholic) placed third at 174 pounds, and Alec Pence (a state placewinner for Chopticon High) finished fourth at 197 pounds. Pence defeated fellow Marylander, Ursinus' Taylor Gload (a state champ for Hereford), to place at the event.
As a team, UMBC finished in fourth place out of nine teams. Ursinus won the team title. Centenary, coached by Marylander Mike Kessler (a state champ from Owings Mills), was second. West Chester finished in six place.
