SFU Menís Wrestling: Hanson and Davis win gold at Clackamas Open

Oregon City, OR Ė Clete Hanson (Spokane, WA) and Skylor Davis (Zillah, WA) led the way for the Simon Fraser University Clan menís wrestling team this past weekend as both athletes won gold medals at the Clackamas Open.

Hanson won four matches in the 184-pound division to earn the victory. In the semi-final he defeated John Tuck of Oregon State University 8-3 and then prevailed over NAIA number one ranked wrestler Derek Rottenburg of Southern Oregon in the final.

He was chosen as the tournamentís outstanding wrestler for his efforts.

Davis, who leads the Clan in pins this year, won all three of his matches by pinfall to capture the crown in the 125-pound weight class.

He defeated Pacific Universityís Ian Hocker by pinfall in the first period of the final.

Alex Stemer (Vashon Island, WA) and Gurjot Kooner (Abbotsford, BC) walked away with silver medals for SFU, while Max Arcand (Burnaby, BC) won bronze.

Stemer earned his silver in the 149-pound division, losing 10-5 to Nick Schlagger of Oregon State University in the finals.

Kooner notched a victory in the 285-pound semi-final over Oregon State University rival Jordan Schwartzlander, whom he had lost to when the two met in November.

This time, Kooner defeated Schwartzlander 4-2 before falling to fellow Simon Fraser University student Sunny Dhinsa, who was wrestling in the tournament unattached.

After dropping his semi-final match to Seth Thomas of Oregon State University, Arcand faced off with teammate Brock Lamb (Destin, FL) in the bronze medal match in the 165-pound division.

Arcand defeated Lamb 5-1 to take the bronze.

The Clan menís wrestling team will be back in action in Ashland, OR on Saturday, January 28 against the Southern Oregon University Raiders and Clackamas Community College.
