UMBC Outpoints Gloucester, takes home Doug Cherry Title
Easton, Pa. -- For the second year in a row, UMBC wrestling took home the team title Saturday at the Doug Cherry Tournament at Lafayette College.
The Retrievers crowned four individual champions and placed 12 wrestlers at the event, outpointing second-place Gloucester County College (a nationally-ranked NJCAA team), 137 to 90. Army Prep came in third place, with 72.5 points.
Individual champions for UMBC were: Kris Dutt (133 / Howard), Junior Monzey (165 / Georgetown Prep), Mike Munno (174 / DeMatha) and Karim Mansour (285 / Western Tech).
With four first-period falls, Dutt earned the tournament's award for "Most Falls, Least Time."
Other placers for UMBC were: Greg Robinson (125 / Curley), third; Brian Samuels (149 / Leonardtown), second; Martin Mitchell (165 / Laurel), second; Cooper McCrae (165 / Hereford), sixth; Chris Urps (174 / Chesapeake-AA), second; Eldar Muradov (184 / Russia), second; Billy Kuczarski (197 / Glenelg), fourth; and Chris Grimm (235 / John Carroll), fourth.
Next up for UMBC is a quad-meet with Wilkes, Ursinus and McDaniel, hosted by McDaniel, Saturday at noon.
