University of New Hampshire Wrestling Season Outlook 2005-2006


The University of New Hampshire Wrestling Team is looking to continue to improve as they head into the 2005-06 season. The team returns all but one wrestler, including 8 National Qualifiers from last years team that won the Northeast Conference, and placed a best ever 6th place at the Nationals in Dallas, TX. The team will be lead by seniors, Ryan Holder(157), Jon Gaffney(l84), and Mike Grafstein(197). UNH Opens up their 2005-06 Campaign at the Ithaca College Invitational on November 5th and 6th.
UNH will have 3 major contributors back in the line-up this season as well. Ryan Holder, an All-American at 157 his freshman season, is recovered, from a torn ACL that kept him sidelined all of last year, and is anxious to regain his All-American Status. Tod Thone who did not compete last season, after earning All-American Status at 133 pounds as a sophomore is back in school and is expected to compete at 141. Mike Grafstein (197) who suffered a broken arm in the conference semi-finals last season, is healthy and again ready to help the wildcats improve.
In addition to the veteran returnees, Coach Aparo has brought in another accomplished recruiting class to help the team improve. Highlighting the class is Brian Bumpus, who was a 3X NH State Champion, 2003 New England Champion, and has spent the last 2 seasons wrestling at Division 1 Sacred Heart University before deciding to return home to New Hampshire. In addition UNH, has several more talented newcomers looking to get into the mix this season. They include:
