11/05/2012 -

Both the US Military Academy Prep School and Penn State New Kensington wrestling programs kicked off their season on the campus of Clarion University this past weekend at the Knights Point Open.
Two USMAPS wrestlers came away with 2-2 records and a team overall performance of 6-14. Leading the way for the Black Knights was Austin Marsico (133) and Chris Monge (141) with a pair of wins each. Adding one victory each was Connor Melde (149) and Tony Risaliti (165). - PSUNK's 184 lb. Matt Kepple was the lone nittany lion to manage a victory in the tough NCAA DI competition field dominated by teams from Navy, Pitt and host team Clarion. Kepple's win came in his second-round consolation match against Matthew McVay of Navy. The 184-pound junior was able to pick up a riding time point to knot the match at 3-3 after being taken down late in the 3rd. Kepple got in deep on a single leg and finished nicely to get the 5-3 overtime victory. MAPS head coach Michael Gorman said "Our team looks to build onto the wins collumn in two weeks at NY State Collegiate Championships at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY." - Penn State New Kensington will be back in action on Saturday, November 10th as they travel to the Washington & Jefferson Invitational in Washington, Pa.
