University of Maryland crowns three champs at National Collegiate Open

UMBC wrestlers won three championships today at the National Collegiate Open in Richmond, Va.

Kekura Musa (141), Martin Mitchell (149) & Alec Pence (184) took home individual titles.

"The team is looking strong heading into next week's conference championships," said UMBC head coach Luke Broadwater. "This was a great tuneup. The guys are feeling confident as we enter the postseason."

Daniel Carr (149), Curtis Taylor (165) and Mike Massarelli (197) finished in second; Josh Weesner (133), Brian Samuels (141) and Chris Urps (197) took third.

Kris Dutt (149), Randy Huber (165) and Chris Ealey (174) placed fourth, while Ryan Bausch (141) was fifth and Stephen Omoyeni (149) was sixth.

With four victories, Martin Mitchell earned his 40th win of the season during the event.

UMBC now heads to the Mid-East Conference championships at Penn College of Technology.
