BYU finishes 2nd in their WCC debut

03/05/2014 -

After a long approval process Brigham Young wrestling program started official practice at Provo High School after the high-schoolers had already gone home. Even though half of the season was already passed the wrestlers at BYU were determined to finish top three at conference finals.
Only six weeks later that goal came to fruition as BYU finished 2nd at the West Coast Conference Championships, just barely edging out host, Dixie State. Overall BYU qualified 8 wrestlers for Nationals and had three finalist: Brandon Grooms (141), Alex Nicholes (174) adn Kyle Lane (Hywt).
Although the dominant force at the tournament was transitioning team Grand Canyon University, BYU was still pleased with its showing. BYU already has its sight set for the 2015 WCC tournament. The Cougars are hoping to unseat some of the returning conference champions and qualify 11 wrestlers.
The program is still in its infancy but has big plans for future.
