Though some UW-Milwaukee wrestlers are still seeking their first victories, the team showed much improvement at this weekend’s Concordia Open. The young Panther wrestling squad showed it can hold its own against the DIII schools in Wisconsin and neighboring states.

Nick Tadeo broke out with his first three victories of the season, including two pins on the day, ending with a 3-2 record at the open. Sean Lueck was back on the mats for his first competition of the season, at a new weight class, 149 lbs., where he gained his first victory of the season, with a first period pin. David Vanden Avond also came on strong in his first competition of the season, with 2 solid wins before losing a controversial overtime match against #1-seeded Rob Caulfield of Loras. Club President Darin Kwilinski got his first win of the season, against new cross-town rival Adam Crozier of the Marquette University Wrestling Club, and looked solid in a hard-fought loss to #3-seeded Mike Sanchez of Case Western.

The Panthers hit the mats again on Saturday, Dec. 2nd, at the Wisconsin Open, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
