Seminole Invitational

In yet another outstanding performance, the Central Florida Knights finished first at FSUís 2007 Seminole Invitational. Despite having four starters not participating in the tournament, Central Florida finished with six tournament champions, and four top three place-winners. The Knights accumulated 128 tournament points to top Kennesaw State University ís 61.5 points, followed by Darton College , Florida Gulf Coast University, and Florida Atlantic University , respectively.

At 125 lbs., Federico Carosio defeated teammate Frito Cherenfant in what proved to be an excellent match. At 133 lbs., William Rothenberg placed second to FAMUís Reuban Felder. At 141 lbs., Paul Rothenberg defeated John Queiroz with a scramble reversal in double overtime. At 149 lbs., Rob McCarty continued his relentless pursuit towards a national title with a second period technical fall in the finals. McCarty, with a record of 33-8, now leads the team with 23 victories by pin and/or technical falls. At 157 lbs., Mike Lemieux ended the day undefeated and allowed no offensive points to be scored by his opponents. At 165 lbs., freshmen Devon Jackson finished with an impressive third place over USFís Josh Wilson. At 184 lbs., Matt Stwan finished the tournament in first place, defeating 2006 NCWA All-American Tariq Humes (FGCU) in the semi-finals and Kennesaw State University ís Ben Ericks in the finals. 197 lbs., Jimmy Myers lost a close match to Eric Bendler, who was named the outstanding wrestler. In UCFís final match, Jesse Pinson, 285 lbs., recorded a second period pin over FSUís Derek Saibi.

With the conclusion of the teamís regular season schedule, the Knights will now prepare for the Southeast Conference Championship in Athens , GA followed by the NCWA national tournament in Dallas , TX . For more results, please visit www.ncwa.net/results.
