Perry takes fourth at 149 to lead Builders at Division I States
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. -- The Apprentice School wrestling team finished sixth on Saturday competing in the Virginia Division I State Championships held at the John Paul Jones Arena at the University of Virginia.
Sophomore Matt Perry (Chesapeake, Va./Oscar Smith HS) was the top finisher for the Builders coming in fourth place at 149 pounds with a 2-2 record. He opened with an 8-1 loss to Pete Ferrara of UVA before taking his next two matches in the consolation bracket. Perry defeated Aaron Keeton of George Mason via a 9-7 decision and then advanced to the third place match with a medical forfeit victory over Pat Riley of Virginia. In that third place match he lost to Ferrara by a pin at 5:22.
The other victory on the day for the Builders was by freshman Charles Robinson (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover HS) as he defeated Corey Vasbinder of Liberty in his first consolation match by an 8-4 decision.
Next up for the Builders will be the 28th annual Virginia Duals starting on Friday at the Hampton Coliseum.
