NCWA Announces National Tournament Host City

10/18/2008 -

DALLAS, TX. October 18, 2008...

The NCWA is proud to announce that the City of Hampton, Virginia in conjunction with The Apprentice School located in Newport News will play Hosts to the 2009 National Collegiate Wrestling Championships March 12th, 13th and 14th 2009.

The Hampton University Convocation Center Arena will be the precise location of the three day event that will crown eleven individual Champions in the men's division and eight Champions in the Women's Division. NCWA Executive Director Jim Giunta said "We are excited to be in Virginia this year for the Nationals and in particular to be working with the City of Hampton and The Apprentice School." Apprentice is one of the NCWA's perennial powerhouses with nine top 10 finishes in the past eleven years. Although Apprentice has never won the title they are always in the hunt and having home fan advantage may prove to be that silver bullet that finally helps them capture the crown. "We looked at numerous cities this past year in an effort to find the best combination of facilities, wrestling fan base, host city support and proximity to NCWA institutions. Upon complete review by the tournament committee, Hampton emerged as the overwhelming best choice." said Giunta.

Hampton's CVB took an active role in driving the committee's decision, by sending two representatives to last years nationals in Lakeland, Florida. Through consistent follow-up and desire to please, Kris Smith of Sports Hampton landed the three day 2,000 room night event for the City of Hampton. The event will bring athletes from 41 states and over 130 colleges to Hampton to determine the 2009 Collegiate National Wrestling Champions. Donít miss all the action as some of the best men and women wrestlers the U.S. has to offer grapple for their spot in collegiate wrestling history.
