Titan Open Draws 141 Wrestlers
The Titan Wrestling Club, a member of the NHSCA, hosted their 2nd Annual Veteran's Day Open at UAlbany Saturday. The event drew 141 competitors from 17 different schools. Mostly made up of the northern Northeast Conference teams, the NCWA squads were joined by some unatteched wrestlers from STCC, AIC and SUNY Cobleskill.
A modified round robin format commonly called the "Maryland Crab" was used to facilitate as much wrestling as possible. All wrestlers had the opportunity to compete in at least three matches with many getting as many as five. Even with getting in a little bit of a late start, we were able to wrestle a total of 286 matches and be done by 6pm. No mean feat!
This was the first collegiate level tournament to be held in the UAlbany gym in about 15 years. It followed a night of duals hosted by the Great Danes. Match-ups on Friday night included UAlbany vs. UConn, URI vs. New Haven, RPI vs. New Hampshire and the showcase event of Army Prep vs. Navy Prep. Thanks go out to all that attended, competed, officiated and helped out in any way.
