Lee Brings Home First Conference Champion
BUENA VISTA, VA - The Lee Flames competed in the NCWA Mid-Atlantic Conference Championships on Saturday, February 28. Senior Joe Jellison (125) captured the championship title at his weight class and became Lee University's first conference champion in the sport of wrestling. In addition, Jellison qualified for the NCWA National Championships, which will be held from March 12-14 in Hampton, Virginia. This will be Jellison's third appearance at the National Championships where he qualified in 2007 and 2008. Junior Casey Grisham (157) placed sixth in his weight class, barely missing the top five placement, which would have guaranteed him a spot in the National Championships. Junior Irvin Lilly, Jr. (235), freshmen Stephen Ward (174) and Chris Jones (197) went 0-2 on the day. The Flames placed tenth at the tournament with 25.0 points. The Apprentice School took home the first place trophy with a team score of 177.0 points. Tennessee Temple University placed third with 64.5 points, while Middle Tennessee State University placed fourth with 62.5 points.
