Lee Wrestler Achieves All-American

HAMPTON, VA - Lee University senior Joe Jellison achieved the level of collegiate All-American (top eight nationally) while competing in the menís NCWA 2009 National Collegiate Wrestling Championship tournament March 12-14 in Hampton, Virginia. Jellison is a 2005 graduate from Ross High School in Hamilton, Ohio where he wrestled varsity for three years and advanced to the Ohio High School state championships during the 2005 season. Jellison achieved the level of collegiate wrestling All-American during the second day of competition. Wrestling in the 125# thirty two man bracket, in the opening day tournament rounds he posted a victory and a loss. Day two of the tournament was Joe's day; showing heart and unwavering determination during a span of 8 hours he fought back thru the consolation side of the bracket winning three consecutive matches to secure his All-American status. Saturday evening the NCWA All-Americans were honored during an award ceremony and banquet. Jellison is the founder and coach of the Lee University wrestling team. 2009 represented Joe's third year of qualifying and competing at the NCWA National Championship tournament. During his 2008-2009 collegiate wrestling season, Joe complied a record of 25 wins and 7 losses and was the Mid-Atlantic Conference champion. Lee University qualified two wrestlers for the 2009 national championship tournament and competed with wrestlers from 83 other collegiate institutions. Junior Casey Grisham went 1-2 during the tournament and this was his second appearance at the big show. The Apprentice School was crowned the tournament team champion. Joe plans on attending graduate school in the fall and continue to participate in the sport of wrestling as the coach of the Lee University wrestling team.
