Coach Redman starts the Spartan season early

San Jose State Head Coach Robert Redman got the season off in the right direction when he finished 2nd in the Gi-Grappling U.S. World Team Trials and qualified to represent the United State at the Grappling World Championships on December 11th and 12th in Fort Lauderdale Florida. Redman competed in both the Gi and No-Gi competition at the Team Trials against athletes half his age. On Friday Redman finish 5th in No-Gi Grappling in his first No-Gi Competition. Redman a former Sombo athlete wrestled Arizona State wrestler Kenny Lester 20 years his junior in the finals. Redman attempted a throw in the finals that Lester slipped allowing him to gain back control working into a rear naked choke breaking Coach Redmans' nose before the old Veteran would submit. Redman 45 will be the oldest member of the U.S Delegation a few years older then the U.S. World Team Head Coach.

Redman will pull double duty this season coaching both the San Jose State squad and the new NCWA club program at Gavilan Community College.
