UMBC wins over 30 matches against NCAA opponents

After the first two tournaments of the year, UMBC wrestlers have won more than 30 matches against NCAA opponents.

Following performances at the Messiah College invitational in Grantham, Pa., and the UNC-Pembroke Classic in Pembroke, N.C., UMBC wrestlers have defeated 14 NCAA DIII wrestlers, 10 NCAA DII wrestlers and 7 NCAA DI wrestlers.

UMBC wrestlers own wins this year over athletes from NCAA DI Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Citadel and Campbell, among others.

At the Messiah invitational, freshman 133-pounder Kekura Musa and senior 235-pounder John Lapoint finished in the top six; At the UNC-Pembroke Classic, senior 157-pounder Leif Huber and junior 184-pounder Joe Eassa finished in the top eight.

Next up for UMBC is the first NCWA competition for the team this year, a home tri-meet against NCWA squads from James Madison and Towson on Saturday, Nov. 21 at 10 a.m.
