Flames battle tough competition at Crusader Classic
CHATTANOOGA, TN -- The Lee University Flames menís wrestling team grappled a strong contest of teams at The Crusader Classic on Saturday, Dec. 5 at Tennesee Temple University.
The tournament included eight schools from around the country including two of the top ten NCWA nationally ranked schools, No. 2 Marion Military Institute (AL) and No. 7 Middle Tennessee State University. The Flames boasted two tough wrestlers from the squad at the event.
Sophomore Ryan McDermott continued his All American quest for the Flames by placing 2nd in the 149 lb. class, and finishing the day 2-1. McDermott pinned both his victories in the 1st period of action. His only loss came at the hands of a 9-5 defeat.
Much improved sophomore Stephen Ward finished the tournament 0-2 in the 174 lb. class, but performed hard and wrestled well for head coach Joe Jellison. Ward is a considerate sleeper in the 174 lb. class this season in the Mid-Atlantic Conference.
The Flames will battle their next set of tough competition at the Mercer Duals in Macon, Ga. on Jan. 23 at Mercer University.
