University of Georgia off to a good start in 2010
The UGA wrestling team started off the new year right, with an increase in club membership and expecatations. Ten wrestlers competed in the Georgia State Championships at Mercer University, earning 2nd as a team. UGA brought home four champions: Frankie Miller (125), An Pham (141), Jackson Govatos (157), and Alan Taylor (165). Hard work from Lendl Trieu (125), Travis Elrod (141), Joel Hyder (165), and Russell Holzgrefe (184) began to pay off, as each earned second place in their weights. Cesar Santana (157) also did not disappoint. "It always shows a lot of heart when you beat a guy in the consolations after being beaten by him earlier that same day."-commented teammate An Pham on the third place medalist. Speaking of heart, John Mercado (174) finshed the period with an ankle injury before he had to default for the day. UGA fans await the return of senior John Mercado to the training room, as well as the excitement of hosting their 5th Annual Classic City Tournament on February 6, 2010.
