Apprentice Downs DI and DII Opponents to Cap off Season

LAURINBURG, NC -- The Apprentice School wrestling team closed out its regular season with a pair of wins on Saturday in Laurinburg, N.C. The Builders defeated NCAA Division II St. Andrews Presbyterian College 33-12 then knocked off NCAA Division I Campbell University 28-16 at Harris Court on the campus of St. Andrews Presbyterian College.

Those wins give the Builders a final dual match record of 18-5 to set a school record for most dual match wins in a season.

APPRENTICE SCHOOL 33, ST. ANDREWS 12
The Knights opened with a 6-1 victory at 125 pounds by Josh Tegard to take an early 3-0 lead before the Builders took wins in seven of the next eight bouts with four of those wins by pin to take the 33-12 victory.

Sophomore Marcus Chevres started the pin attack with a win at 133 pounds in 75 seconds to put the Builders up 6-3. Following a St. Andrews win at 141 pounds, sophomore Ricky Anderson recorded a pin in 63 seconds to put the Builders up 12-6.

Senior Matt Perry and freshman Patrick McIntosh took wins by decision to push the advantage to 18-6 before senior Will Harcum won at 174 pounds at the 2:58 mark of the first period for his 37th win of the season and 23rd by pin.

Freshman Malachi Outlaw took a 7-5 overtime decision with a takedown 30 seconds into the sudden victory overtime period to push the Builders lead to 27-6. Fellow freshman Stuart Roes had the final pin of the dual winning his match at 197 pounds in 3:42 for a 33-6 lead.

APPRENTICE SCHOOL 28, CAMPBELL 16
In the final match of the day, the Builders ran off five wins in a span of six bouts to take a commanding 22-7 advantage en route to a 28-16 win over NCAA Division I Campbell University.

After losing in the 125 pound match, the Builders started the run with a Chevres win at 133 pounds by a major decision to tie the match 4-4. Senior Ty Holley scored a 5-3 decision at 141 pounds and Anderson followed with his second win by pin on the day at 149 pounds to put the Builders up 13-4.

Campbell scored a victory at 157 pounds before McIntosh gave the Builders a couple bonus points at 165 pounds with an 18-2 technical fall win to put Apprentice School ahead 18-7. Harcum gave the team another bonus point win with his 21-12 major decision victory at 174 pounds for a 22-7 advantage.

The Camels cut the deficit to 22-16 with a decision win at 184 pounds and a win by pin at 197, but the Builders closed the deal with a win by freshman Jeremy Diley at heavyweight as he pinned his opponent in 57 seconds.
