HAMPTON, Va. – Central Florida rallied from a near-disastrous morning session to set itself up for its first national title in five seasons at the NCWA Championships. The Knights have a 20-point lead over The Apprentice School heading into tonight’s championship matches, and need only one win from its eight remaining wrestlers to clinch the championship.
UCF’s title shot dropped back into a close race Saturday morning when the Knights suffered through an 0-8 session in which it saw all five of its semifinalists lose. That blew the Knight’s 15.5-point lead over The Apprentice School, and put them behind 104-100 entering the later consolation round after defending champion Apprentice rolled through a 5-2 session.
The UCF wrestlers regrouped with a perfect session in the mid-day, and three pins among their six wins pushed their lead near the clinching point.
Here are the updated top-10 teams going into the championship matches. Check back later this evening for a complete wrap-up of the championships and the full team standings for Division I and Division II.
