Caldwell, Burroughs & Lewnes Highlight UMBC clinic series
UMBC wrestling will complete its summer clinic series this Sunday, with an event headlined by NCAA DI champion Darrion Caldwell of N.C. State.
Caldwell won the outstanding wrestler award in 2009, after defeating Iowa star Brent Metcalf in the NCAA finals. Dynamic and exciting, Caldwell has also pinned NCAA finalist Lance Palmer in the first period.
Caldwell's event comes on the heels of earlier clinics this summer at UMBC headlined by NCAA champion Jordan Burroughs of Nebraska (an undefeated champ who won the tournament's toughest weight in 2009) and NCAA finalist Mack Lewnes of Cornell (who was undefeated and had not yielded a takedown all year before the 2010 NCAA finals).
In addition to working regularly with world medalist and legend Cary Kolat, the UMBC wrestling team is dedicated to bringing the best wrestling technique and training possible to the Maryland and Baltimore areas.
Wrestlers of all ages can learn immensely from the likes of Caldwell, Burroughs and Lewnes.
The Darrion Caldwell event is Sunday, Aug. 22 at 1 p.m. at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The team anticipates a large turn-out from area youth.
