CU Plagued by Forfeits in Close Loss Against CSU
The Colorado Buffaloes Wrestling team lost a hard fought battle last Wednesday against a talented CSU team where they gave up 18 points in forfeits. The duel, held in Fort Collins, was an exciting night of pins and close matches. It was CUís forfeits at three weight classes, however, that was the deciding factor in the final team score.
The evening was started by two key CU pins at 133 and 141, by twin brothers, Dan and John Godin, respectively. This was followed by a 4-2 win by CUís Casey Myers at 149 pounds, where Myers edged out a takedown with less than 10 seconds left in the third period. John Combs of CU followed with another key pin in the first period at 157 pounds. Penalty points cost CUís Ryne Mcqueen the match at 165 where he was notched 3-2 against Tyler Crashal. Coloradoís Matt Jones followed with an exciting overtime victory at 174 against Aaron Paz of CSU. Coloradoís Gabe Castrillo and Adrin Linan ended the duel with hard fought losses at 184 and 197, respectively. The final score of the duel was CU:24, CSU:30
In exhibition competition Colorado recorded 3 pins from John Godin, Casey Myers and Ryne Mcqueen. John Combs obtained a technical fall 19-4, while Dan Godin recorded a decision 7-1.
The University of Colorado team heads to the University of Wyoming this weekend to compete in the Cowboy Open followed by the University of Northern Colorado Open on November 20th.
