11/22/2010 -

Five hundred and fourteen (514) college wrestlers descended on Minneapolis Minnesota to compete in one of the top open tournaments in the Midwest, the Auggie-Brute-Adidas Open hosted by top ranked NCAA division3 Augsburg. The competition was intense in all the divisions and weight classes as there were 3 top 25 teams from NCAA division 2, 7 top 25 teams from NCAA division 3 (including the top 3 teams), many unattached wrestlers as well as quality teams from NAIA, NJCAA as well as the small squad representing the NCWA in Winona State. In the end, Winona State came out battered and bruised but in good spirits as they went toe to toe with the best college teams in the area for the third week in a row. Winning matches for Winona State was Tyler Tradup going 2-1 and taking 2nd in the 174 copper division and Eric Weigel going 1-2 taking 6th in the silver division at 197. Getting knocked out literally in the first round of wrestling was Adam Whirley at 157, son of Scott Whirley NAIA National Champion, who then injury defaulted out of the tournament as well as Cam Miller at 285. Both athletes incurred head injuries and will be monitored in the coming weeks before returning to the mat. Chad Tauer wrestled hard on the day but went 0-2 on the day. No teams scores were kept on the day.
