Mavs Gear up for National Duals
The seventeenth ranked UT-Arlington wrestlers dive head-first into second-semester action this weekend as the team heads to Georgia to compete in the NCWA National Duals. The exclusive event will pair the Mavs in head-to-head competition against some of the nation’s top programs. This will be the first time the Mavericks have competed at the national duals.
“The top twenty four teams in the nation are invited,” notes Maverick head coach Jeff McCall. “They base that off the previous year’s national tournament. Since we placed eighteenth, we were one of the schools selected this season.”
The Mavs will take 3 nationally-ranked wrestlers to Georgia as part of their lineup. Tyler Harrison (141), AJ Juarez (165), & Ivan Loya (235), all numbered among the top 20 of their respective weight divisions in the most recent NWCA wrestling poll. The Mavs will also benefit from the return of Caleb Alexander (174) & Jose Lazo (125) returning national qualifiers missed the first semester due to injuries.
