West Chester University Team Press ReleasesWest Chester Again Crowns Two Champions at Nationals | 03/21/2011 - The West Chester University wrestling team completed their 2011 season in very impressive fashion at the NCWA National Tournament that took place in Macon, GA on March 10-12. The Golden Rams showed that they are indeed a legitimate national power by coming away with four All-Americans on their way to a 6th place team finish in what was the strongest field in NCWA history. In the process, WCU repeated their feat of a year ago in crowning TWO NATIONAL CHAMPIONS, along with a 3rd place and a 7th place finisher.
The Golden Rams have quickly proven their worth on the national stage. In 2009, they sent only two wrestlers to their first NCWA national tournament, with one coming away as the national champion. That initial effort was followed up with having six national qualifiers in 2010, four of which earned All-American status, including two national champions. With their 2011 performance, WCU has produced 5 National Champions, 9 All-Americans, 18 national qualifiers, 4th and 6th place finishes at national duals and two, 6th place team finishes at the national tournament – ALL IN JUST THREE SEASON’S!!!!!
With a dedicated coaching staff of Joe Miller, Alray Johnson, Doc Colley and Glenn Koser, the Golden Ram program is sure to grow and get stronger each year. The tremendous support that has been given by the many West Chester wrestling alumni throughout the country has also been a very important factor in the rise of the program.
The WCU wrestlers who competed at nationals are:
John Dickinson – 125 Jason Mandragona – 133 Luke Bilyeu – 141, ALL-AMERICAN, 3rd place Nate Snyder – 149 Max Barsky – 157 Dustin “Tank” Tancredi – 165, NATIONAL CHAMPION Kevin Bacci – 184, 2-TIME NATIONAL CHAMPION Brandon Banks – 197 Tom Dwyer – 235 Ryan Kreppel – 235, ALL-AMERICAN, 7th place
