Bisons begin wrestling season at Pembroke Classic

The Gallaudet University wrestling club season got underway last Saturday as the Bison participated in the 29th Annual Pembroke Classic hosted by UNC Pembroke. GU sent two wrestlers to North Carolina to participate in the classic.

Chris Cassel posted a 1-2 record in the 157-pound division as he beat Darien Peele from Campbell University by fall 1:28 into the match. Cassel's second match pitted him against Davis DiLillo from University of North Carolina, who won 2:57 in. The final match for Cassel was against Rashaad Saunders from the host Braves at UNC Pembroke. The match went the distance but Saunders won 5-3 by decision.

The second GU wrestler was Shannon Callahan who went 0-2 in the 184-pound division. Callahan lost his first match to Joe Eassa from University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) by fall 2:48 into the match. The second match lasted longer but the outcome was the same as Callahan fell 4:15 into the match against Mike Lauray from Darton College.

Gallaudet will next wrestle at the UMBC Retriever Duals on Saturday, December 12, in Baltimore.
