Central Washington Wildcats Eye Daytona Beach

12/11/2011 -
The Central Washington Wildcat’s began their 2011-2012 wrestling season opening at Eastern Washington. The Wildcats were very shorthanded on the day in numbers but remained aggressive competing in spite of having to give up numerous forfeits in route to a 27-9 loss. Central scored points by receiving a forfeit at 141 pounds with Kyle Moore, and an exciting match which ended in a 2-0 decision by David Kuich over Aubry Blad of Eastern Washington at 149lbs. The 285 pound match concluded the dual with another exciting match between Central’s Bob Tacheron and Eastern’s Sean Gurnard with Gurnard winning 4-1.
Central took the mats in December at the Collegiate Open at Pacific University. We had one placer in David Kuich, who placed 5th at 141 lbs.
The Wildcats are setting big goals for postseason to reach the podium in Daytona Beach, Florida. Though numbers have been low in the fall, The Wildcats will come back in greater numbers and are very excited with the new arrivals of Junior transfer Shawn Olivarez (Highline Community College) and Senior transfer Riley Cornett. “I have seen a lot of improvement over the course of the season so far, we have a young team who continues to get better each time we step on the mat” says Coach Chris Chambers. Chambers also adds “We know what we need to do to get to the next level. We will set the bar high and expect more for ourselves. When we are wrestling in Daytona, all of our hard work will pay off.”
