SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. --- California Baptist University kicked off its dual season going 1-2 at a trio of duals at Cal Poly SLO Friday.

The Lancers defeated the NAIA's No. 9-ranked Menlo, 21-18, before falling to NCAA Division I Cal Poly SLO, 31-15, and NAIA No. 10 Southern Oregon, 31-18.

"We wrestled tough against some good teams," said CBU Head Coach John Petty. "It was a good overall effort by the guys. We gave away too many bonus points today, especially against Southern Oregon, and you can't expect to beat anybody when you're giving up pins like we did today. That gives us something to work on going forward, and once we shore that up, we should be in good shape."

Chris Santana won all three of his matches at 149, two of them with pins. Caleb Gerl also won all three of his matches, including an 11-1 win over NAIA All-American Ronald Lee of Southern Oregon. Jimmy Martinez won twice. He was the only other Lancer with multiple wins.

The Lancers (1-2) will participate in the Desert Duals Monday (Dec. 20).
