Gators Welcome Crandall as New Head Coach
The University of Florida is pleased to introduce John Crandall as their new head coach. The Virginia Commonwealth University Alumnus and former VCU and Syracuse head coach takes over Gator wrestling's top coaching slot.
"First of all, it's an honor to even be affiliated with the University of Florida", Crandall said. "Every time I stand in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium and I see names like Steve Spurrier, Emmitt Smith, and Tim Tebow staring down at me, I know I"m among giants."
Crandall's ultimate goal is to take the program, which had some success in the past, and make it one of the top programs in the nation. "It's a high goal to reach, but I know it's obtainable," Crandall commented. "We have outstanding support from the University, a fan base unlike any I've ever experienced, and most importantly a group of wrestlers that are driven to succeed and are ready to make noise in the NCWA." Last season, the Gators finished 4th in the Southeast Conference and 37th at Nationals. UF has several returning athletes including All-American Mark Koski. Last season, Koski placed 6th at the National Championships.
The team has already begun pre-season conditioning. Practice will begin the last week of August, and they will kick off their season in October.
